1874 U21’s 2 v Garswood 1

A good crowd of around 50 witnessed 1874 U21’s take full points against league leaders Garswood and consolidates 1874 in second place.

A fairly even first half with chances on both sides but Garswood scored from a very long throw on the half hour (wind assisted) that hit one of their players on the back post and diverted into the goal. It was very competitive game which saw so flying tackles but also some good play in the conditions.

Coming out 1-0 down in the second half they really did take it to Garswood. with some good moves which brought a number of chances which seemed to end up in the goalkeepers hands numerous times. Eventually from a through ball Taylor Kennerley finished really well to level the scores with 70 minutes gone.

From there the lads kept pushing and eventually scored a winner with five minutes left on the clock. It was from a cracking shot from the edge of the area from Chad Lowe, which sent the “crowd” went wild!! Garswood really did put the pressure on for the remaining minutes but Ryan Millington in the goal was secure and made an outstanding save with just seconds left.

Those of you that missed this thrilling victory today for our Under 21’s will regret it. It was a pleasure to watch.

This win against the league leaders cuts their lead to 1 point, with the return fixture later in March.

Next up is Mosley Hill away, when the U21’s have the chance to move into top spot.
