1874 are delighted to announce the re-signing of Lucas Weir after his return from his football scholarship in America. At training Club Media Officer Matt Waters caught up with Lucas to discuss the move.
After making an instant impact to the squad during the 2017/18 season, Lucas went way for a scholarship playing football in America, and after learning a lot during his time abroad, he was delighted to return to 1874. He said, “I’m really looking forward to back with lads after some time away. They’ve done some really good things whilst I’ve been away so im excited to be a part of the squad for the rest of the season.”
During his first short stint for the club Lucas made 11 appearances before leaving for America. However, he admitted he’d grown a lot as a person, which would only benefit him as a player. “After being away for a while it made me grow as an individual. I’ve learnt to play football at a fast pace against some extremely athletic opponents which was a learning curve for me. I feel after a year’s football over there I’m physically fitter than I was before and it’s been another years’ experience playing football. I believe that the style of football I played in the last year will help me when I come back into the side and continue the good work that the lads have done.”
When asked what his aims were for the remainder of the season, it was clear that Lucas had one thing on his mind. He explained, “With the team doing so well I just want to help out where I can or wherever I’m needed to play to help the team win promotion. They’ve got us in a really good position so hopefully I can help with that.”
As no international clearance was needed for Lucas’ transfer, he is available straight away for selection against Litherland REMCYA.
