ABBEY HULTON FC 1 V 4 1874 NORTHWICH FC
After having been postponed on two occasions at the St Lukes Barton Stadium this Macron Cup 2nd round game finally took place at The Birches Head ground on Thursday evening.
The home side managed to prevent 1874 from scoring in the opening 20 minutes but in the 21st minute Daniel Meadowcroft opened the scoring as he netted from close range and on 37 minutes the lead was extended to 2-0 when Adam Whitlock converted a penalty via a ferocious strike from 12 yards and on the stroke of half-time Daniel Meadowcroft was on hand again to pick up the scraps from a corner and tap the ball home from a yard out.
The home side had worked hard in the opening half but when half chances were created they did find 1874’s keeper Hall in top form as he dealt most comfortably with what was thrown at him.
However, Abbey Hulton never stopped trying and they gained some reward in the 74th minute when Joshua Tune fired home as he reacted quickly to seize on a mistake by substitute keeper Callum Spencer (who had replaced Hall at half-time)
However, that goal proved to be the only stumbling block for 1874 in their quest to win another cup tie and in the 81st Minute Jack Lever scored 1874’s fourth goal of the evening to progress to an “away” game against Winsford United in the next round
