Recap
After a day’s rest 1874 returned to action with a comfortable win against a side that in all fairness gave everything that they had from the first to the last minute.
Jake Parker opened the scoring in the 11th minute following some good inter-change play involving Kyle Riley and Shelton Payne. 1874 very nearly added a second goal minutes later but Riley just missed the target after some good approach work.
Riley was involved again with some good buildup play with Freakes but unfortunately the young fullback George Jones couldn’t get any real power behind his shot when well placed.
However, a deserved second goal did arrive in the 40th minute when the impressive Freakes took his chance well. HT 2-0
After the interval the result of the game was virtually “put to bed” after just ten minutes when Payne scored in the 53rd and Ryan Jackson got the fourth two minutes later.
The final goal of the game came in the 78th minute when another 1874 substitute Kazim Waite-Jackson applied a cool finish.
This was a good “morale boosting” win for 1874 as they once again simply got on with the job of playing so many end of season catch up games and at the same time it was also very pleasing to note that the application, commitment and attitude of the Darwen side was very much appreciated by 1874’s supporters who gave them and the officials a much deserved loud applause as they left the field
1874: Hall; Connor; Jones; Pritchard; Mitchell; Freakes; Winthrop; Hind (Capt); Riley; Parker & Payne.
