Recap

Only 30 seconds in to the game, Barnton’s Chris Smith fired a long range effort which beat Greg Hall to give the visitors a shock lead.

1874 could have hit back instantly when, McGowan, lively as always, found space to get a shot away only for ex Green Adam Bayley to block the ball well.

74 drew level on the 15 minute mark, after McGowan was fouled in the area by the Barnton stopper. McGowan dusted himself down before stepping up confidently to fire the penalty into the bottom right corner.

Minutes later and 74 were ahead after McGowan netted his second of the evening. A corner routine picked out the forward on the edge of the area to allow him time to stroke the ball home into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

1874 enjoyed a good spell of controlling the play and they should have made it 3-1 on the half hour mark after Meadowcroft teed McGowan up from Whitlock’s corner, but the forward lashed an effort narrowly over the crossbar.

This miss proved to be costly as, two minutes later, Jack Irlam cut inside from the left wing and curled an unstoppable strike passed a helpless Greg Hall to put the scores level again.
The second half began and McGowan was at it again to complete his hat trick, as he found space in behind the Barnton backline before stroking the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The game opened up now, Kennerley and Hind both producing good saves from the Barnton keeper and at the same time Greg Hall had to be alert to save from Smith again as he hit a rasping effort from the edge of the area.

The visitors were level once again on the 73rd minute after Jack Irlam, a constant menace from the left wing, beat Lever and advanced in to the area and fired across Hall to leave the stopper with no chance.

With time running out, Kennerley had the best chance to win the game as he cut inside from the wing and fired a right footed effort that looked destined for the net but produced an incredible save by Davies.
