1874 NORTHWICH 3-0 GLOSSOP NORTH END FRIENDLY 29TH JULY 2017
By Garry Clarke

1874 Northwich completed their pre season programme with an impressive 3-0 victory over Evostik First Division North Glossop North End at St Luke’s Barton Stadium.

Throughout an open and entertaining game both sides enjoyed periods of dominance when they exerted pressure on their opponents goal, but clear cut chances were few and far between as attacks were thwarted by two stubborn defences.

The first opportunity fell to Glossop’s Chris Baguley in the 25th minute, his attempt from close range prompted Greg Hall to pull off a fine one handed reaction save and also keep out Baguley’s second effort from the rebound.

1874 took the lead in the 35th minute Adam Whitlock firing home after good build up play by Paul Connor and Scott McGowan.

1874’s lead was doubled a minute into the second half when McGowan played the ball into the Glossop area, it seemed to strike a Glossop defender before making its way into the net.

The game was made safe in the 70th minute. Whitlock battled his way through the Glossop defence; his shot was blocked by the legs of the Glossop keeper. The ball rebounded into the path of Taylor Kennerley who drilled the ball into the net.

Glossop ended the game in the ascendancy; however they could not find a way past substitute goalkeeper Callum Spencer who pulled off a string of fine saves in the closing minutes.
