74 MOVE INTO TOP HALF OF THE TABLE

1874 NORTHWICH 2-1 HANLEY TOWN HSL PREMIER 24TH NOVEMBER 2018
Defeating Hanley Town 2-1 at St Luke’s Barton Stadium, 1874 Northwich moved into the top half of the Hallmark Security League Premier Division table as they extended their unbeaten run in league fixtures to seven games.
1874 took the lead in the 33rd minute after an opening half hour in which neither goalkeeper was tested as play was mainly confined to the middle third of the pitch.
The deadlock was broken when Hanley goalkeeper Joe Mellor slipped surrendering possession to Same Hare inside his six yard box. As Mellor was scrambling to regain his feet, Hare coolly turned inside and dispatch the ball into the net via an upright.
1874 doubled their advantage ten minutes into the second half. Hare clipped the ball over the Hanley full back into the path of Callum Gardner who drilled a low cross from the left wing into the Hanley area. The cross found Scott McGowan, receiving the ball with his back to goal 1874’s record goalscorer turned and fired past Mellor.
1874 were now starting to dominate the game. Kazim Waite-Jackson played in McGowan who denied in the process of shooting by a last ditch tackle by Hanley’s Ben White. Lucas Weir floated a free kick across the face of Hanley’s goal which no Northwich player could make contact with.
Against the run of play Hanley broke down the right wing in the 61st minute, Lewis Salmon left highest to meet the cross and planted a firm header past James Coates leaving the 1874 goalkeeper to fish the ball out of the back of the net.
1874 thought they had scored a third goal two minutes later when Waite-Jackson drilled the ball past Mellor from a Matt Russell cross, however Russell had been flagged offside.
1874 continued to push forward, a Gardner shot drew a save from Mellor in the 62nd minute, while 12 minutes later Gardner deflected a Russell cross towards goal where it was cleared off the line. In the 80th minute McGowan racing down the left wing crossed to Hare, With Mellor out of position his shot was blocked on the line. A minute later Gardner landed a long ball in the path of McGowan whose shot was saved by Mellor.
