1874 Northwich vs Macclesfield Town

1874 Northwich advanced to the next round of the Cheshire Senior Cup after a second half blitz of goals saw off a young and spirited Macclesfield Town side at the St Lukes Barton Stadium.

It was 74 who had the better of the opening exchanges, controlling possession and creating the better of the chances, the first real chance was around the 15 minute mark as Sam Hind, returning back to the starting lineup was tackled at the last attempt by a Macclesfield defender after Waite-Jackson picked his run out inside the area

Moments later, Aiden Haughton fired an effort over the crossbar after combining well with Riley.

The breakthrough came on the half hour, Macclesfield won a penalty from a foul by Ryan Mitchell, Liam Chambers took responsibility and sent Greg Hall the wrong way to give our visitors a lead against the run of play.

Only moments later, 1874 had a penalty of their own, Haughton tripped over an outstretched leg. Adam Whitlock placed the ball on the spot and fired the ball home in to the bottom left for his 7th goal of the season.

1874 controlled the second half looking for a way through a resilient Macclesfield backline, and it took a moment of brilliance, Kazim Waite-Jackson picked up the ball from a corner on the 71st minute, around 25 yards from goal he struck a fierce effort which was into the back of the net before the keeper could react.

74 extended their lead to allow for breathing space only a minute later, Whitlock beat his man and put in a delightful cross along the 6 yard box which Aiden Haughton tapped home for his first goal after returning to the club.

Sam Hind then was teed up by Kyle Riley to get the goal his effort during the game deserved, he latched on to Riley’s cut back, kept his composure and finished well around the goalkeeper.

The final whistle sounded and 1874 advanced to the next round.
