MOSSLEY 4-0 1874 NORTHWICH FRIENDLY 22ND JULY 2017
BY GARRY CLARKE
Four goals in the first half condemned 1874 Northwich to defeat at Seel Park in their latest pre season encounter against a clinical and physically dominant Mossley.
1874 started brightly but fell behind in the 8th minute when Elliott Harrison was left unmarked at the far post from a corner allowing him to fire home. Two minutes later the home side doubled their advantage capitalizing on 1874 losing possession they quickly transferred the ball to Jack Touhy who shot home from the edge of the area.
Mossley’s captain Tom Dean headed their 3rd goal in the 15th minute from a long throw in. The Evostik First Division North side scored again in the 31st minute when Touhy flicked home a cross.
In danger of being completely swept away 1874 regrouped and stemmed the tidal wave, making the second half a much more even contest although the home side always held the upper hand.
Limited to occasional long range efforts, 1874 never really threatened the Mossley goal while 1874’s trialist goalkeeper pulled off several good saves in the second half.
