First blood to u21’s in local derby

U21’s secure local bragging rights Witton Albion U21’s 2-5 1874 Northwich U21’s

1874 Northwich U21’s took on local rivals Witton Albion U21’s in the first league meeting of these local rivals in the Championship West Division of the Cheshire U21’s league last Sunday. Two players were making their debuts Adam Whitlock who had trained with the first team during the week and Luis Lomas.

There was a slight delay to the kick off due to confusion on Witton’s part as to which pitch they were playing on! Once this had been sorted 1874 started brightly with the Witton keeper pulling off a couple of top class saves. It was a surprise to the small crowd of 1874 fans that had gathered to watch this derby when Witton took the lead against the run of play 15 minutes in. This didn’t hamper 1874 as they continued to pepper the Witton goal, with their persistence finally paying off on 36 minutes with Whitlock slotting home the equaliser. 3 minutes later 1874 took the lead with Whitlock again with a superb solo effort, blasting the ball home from the right hand side. Half time 2-1.

1874 came out of the blocks for the second half full of inventive and free flowing football with Chad Lowe pulling the strings. 1874 increased their lead through Dan Goodwin (with the help of a couple of deflections) but it was no more than 1874 deserved. At this point 1874 threatened to run riot and Whitlock duly completed his hat trick following a clever free kick from the skipper for the day Nathan Heap, 4-1.2 minutes later it was 5-1 with Connor Arrowsmith stopping low to finish off a great cross from Lomas. Understandably 1874 eased off and Witton pulled a late consolation goal back with a header from a corner.

The win lifts 1874 to 7th in the table with Ashville next up this Sunday at Moss Farm with a 2pm kick off.
