After a disappointing result and elimination from the FA Vase on Saturday, 1874 have the chance to immediately bounce back when they once again hit the road with a visit across Mid-Cheshire to face Northwich Victoria at Winsford United.
Herbert’s side fell to their first defeat of the season in disappointing circumstances, losing 2-0 to a well drilled and organised Wakefield side, and the ’74 boss expressed his disappointment after the full-time whistle.
“It was very disappointing to go out. We have set extremely high standards for the lads, and credit to them they have kept their high standards until yesterday.
“We were just not at the races. Going forward we were just not a threat at all which has been our strong point, defensively we give away far too many chances.”
“If we are honest, we were lucky it was only 2-0. It was certainly a day to forget and move on.”
With the fixture falling over the Bank Holiday weekend, Herbert’s side have the perfect opportunity to bounce back in a Mid-Cheshire derby against Northwich Victoria, and Chris is excited at the opportunity to put things right tomorrow afternoon.
“As I said to the lads, we are very lucky we have such a big game to put it right and only 2 days later.”
“Vics played Friday night so will be slightly fresher. They have been out of sorts lately but in a game like this form goes out of the window, it’s going to be who wants it the most and who has that extra quality to go and put their mark on the game.”
“We can’t wait for this game now, bank holiday derby games are brilliant to be a part of, but only if you win. We want the bragging rights, and I’m happy it is now only 24 hours away.”
“We have to be professional, we can’t get caught up in what ever antics the opposition want to throw at us. It’s up to us to be professional and go there to do the job and get out of there with 3 points.”
“The fans have been amazing, the singing and atmosphere when we came out on Saturday was a different class from our loyal supporters.”
“We need our fans behind us more than ever tomorrow, make it a great occasion and hopefully we can do the job on the pitch.”
“Let’s all get there on Monday and enjoy the occasion and hopefully a big 3 points to come home with.”
