From the Dugout with Chris Herbert: Northwich Victoria (H)

Chris Herbert has urged ’74 fans to turn up in their numbers, as his side host Northwich Victoria, who make the journey from Winsford for this year’s Boxing Day encounter.

After a fantastic 2-1 away win last time out, Herbert was delighted that goals are coming from all over the pitch.

“I was really pleased with the performance, yes we could have had a few more goals, but the lads made sure we dominated the game in and out of possession.”

“That was the 3rd time this season we have played Stone, they know everything about us now and to win 3 out of 3 against a good side like Stone is an achievement on its own. They will take points off the side around us and be around it themselves.”

“It was good to get Robbo on the scoresheet in his 2nd game, he is a big threat with his pace and it’s always good to see the skipper join in with the goals.”

1874 Northwich and Northwich Victoria go into this afternoon’s fixture occupying positions at the opposite ends of the table, with 1874 the side pushing for promotion, but the ’74 boss spoke cautiously ahead of kick off.

“I’ve been involved in many derbies as a player and manager and form does go out of the window.”

“It’s about pride and we have to be professional, it’s all about 3 points we need to keep momentum and 3 points is the aim.

“Of course Northwich Vics will come to us and try to make it very difficult. They have new management who will certainly improve them and make them more organised.

“Ducko and Luke taking over and will try to stamp their mark on it, which they will do, they have signed some good lads with good experience of these levels and they are going to be a tougher opponent than the last fixture I’m sure.”

“We need to take advantage of the transition the club is in at present and make sure we do a professional job on Boxing Day.”

“The lads are in training Christmas Eve as we prepare for a huge game for the club and the fans, we want to give them something to celebrate.”

Last time out against Northwich Victoria, Herbert’s side returned from Winsford with a 4-1 victory, with experienced forward Scott McGowan continuing his scintillating goalscoring record against Vics. Ahead of the Boxing Day fixture, Chris Herbert spoke of the importance of experience when heading into a local derby, as the Greens look to reward the fans support with another important three points.

“I mentioned after the game on Saturday that we have excellent leaders in our team, Skipper Matty Fenton, Jonah, Macca, Tom Morris, they all lead by example, and they have to guide the young lads around them and be influential to them in games like this.”

“This game is for the fans, we want this game to be won by us so we can give the fans something to cheer about.”

“The last fixture at their place all we could hear was our 1874 fans all game. And we want the same again Boxing Day, we perform so much better with the noisy crowd.”

“Sing your hearts out for 90 minutes and we will do everything we can to take the 3 points.”
