From the Dugout with Chris Herbert: Studley (H)

1874 finally return to home league action this weekend against Studley, as they look to continue their unbeaten run. 1874 boss Chris Herbert spoke of his excitement at the chance to get back playing at home this afternoon, after several weeks away.

“We can’t wait to play back at home.”

“We need to make it a fortress and be horrible to get anything out of us. It’s that time of year when the pitches start to take a turn for the worse and it means we have to adapt with that, but that won’t change our attacking style of play.”

After a pulsating draw away at Wolverhampton, which saw two of the 1874 eleven see red, Herbert was pleased with the performance during the second half.

“It was a good 2nd half performance, but the first half was not us and far from professional, not just the sending offs, but our overall play.”

“We conceded again from a corner, which we must improve on. When chances are coming, we are still missing far too many, again we will get that right in the end.”

“2nd half the lads showed what we are about, a siege mentality, a real toughness as a team and a togetherness that is tight on and off the pitch.”

“This is how we know we will get things exactly how we want them.”

Due to injuries, suspension and unavailability, 1874 are without key members of the squad this weekend, with Matt Woolley, Joel Jones, Mark Jones, Chris McCann and Mark Reed all unavailable. With Lichfield continuing their astonishing run of form, Herbert is confident in the ability of the squad ahead of this afternoon’s fixture.

“We are missing some very experienced players, including Tom Morris who is still another 3 weeks away from playing. These lads are going to be a huge miss, but this is why we have a big squad, it’s so we can cover these problems. We are still very strong and back these boys against anyone and to deal with anything.”

“Lichfield will be there or there abouts come the end of the season. We will all drop points somewhere, and it will be the most consistent team that wins it, like any league in the world. Lichfield are the team to beat at the moment.”
