1874 Northwich travel to Uttoxeter Town tonight, for a Midland Football League Premier Division clash. Chris Herbert will be looking to continue ‘74’s perfect start to the league campaign with a sixth win. The Green’s seem to have been making a habit of conceding first and Chris Herbert spoke on his plan to change that:
“For me it’s not how we should be and certainly not what we plan. It’s start of the season and we are a brand new squad. We will get that right.”
“We can not take them lightly. And we can not take chances for sure. They beat Brocton who were in my opinion the best team we have seen this season, to do that takes some doing as we found out.”
On Saturday, the Greens visited Tividale. With 12 players unavailable, it became a tough task to claim all three points.
“We have a great squad and you will never get an excuse from me about missing players. Of course when you miss important players your performance levels slip.”
“We played Saturday with no out and out striker. Although Luis Davin did an amazing job. He is our Mr versatile, but he is not an out and out striker. But his work rate tired them out ready for Reedy’s contribution.”
“Ellis [Farrar] adds real quality at the back, we needed a left sided CB to come in which means we can now move Mark Jones back in to midfield.”
“On the down side Ash Wardle has had to take a backward step from the game due to work and family commitments. It’s a huge blow to us, Ash has been great since he come in. The lads took to him right away in the changing rooms and his attitude was infectious. Hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later.”
Saturday also saw a debut for Matty Halliday. Matty originally registered, whilst training with our U21s and was ready to be called upon when needed.
“Matty has been trying so hard with us, he plays left back or centre back, he is only 17 like Alex Davin and Eddie Frempong. We have a great mix of young lads in our squad. It’s our job to improve them.”
Also joining with the squad is left-sided defender, Richard Taiwo. Richard featured in pre-season and will add good depth to the squad.
