1874 Northwich boss Chris Herbert has heaped praise on his players and urged the town of Northwich to get behind his side, as they look to continue their current unbeaten run in the league and apply pressure to front runners Lichfield.
After a disappointing 4-0 reverse against fellow promotion chasers Brocton, Herbert’s men have gone on to collect 7 out of a possible 9 points, including a hard-fought point against a very good Shifnal Town outfit.
On Shifnal Town, Herbert said:
“It was a great game from the two of the best footballing sides in our league. The standard of the football on a very difficult pitch was very good.”
“Having Shaun Weaver upfront was a big help and helped us retain possession higher up the pitch, allowing the midfielders to trust the ball to stick and let them join in.”
“We played a lot of football in their half, especially during the 2nd half. First half I thought we were a little tense and nervy on the ball, but 2nd half we were more like where Steve and myself want them to be.”
“That’s 7 points from 9 in the last 3 games, we are looking more how we want to and we certainly looked better with a focal point up front. The work rate was there for everyone to see. The lads left everything on the pitch”
’74 head to FA Vase quarter-finalists Whitchurch Alport this weekend, who will pose a difficult test for Herbert’s men, as they look to continue to close the gap at the top.
“We are right in amongst it. Brocton got beat last weekend and teams are dropping points around us.”
“Lichfield will also drop points, whoever goes on the best run now until the end of the season will win the league, it really is that simple. Whoever wins it will thoroughly deserve it.”
“If we have to do it in the play-offs so be it, but our aim is to win the league, until it’s impossible for us to do.”
“I urge the town of Northwich to come out in your numbers and back these lads. They will do the town of Northwich proud and with your backing, starting this weekend away at Whitchurch Alport, we could achieve something very special together.”
