After a few weeks absence due to involvement in cup competitions, 1874 Northwich make their return to league action this weekend, as they look to maintain their 100% record with a trip to Wolverhampton Casuals.
On returning to league action, Herbert said “It is really important that we get going in the league, it has been a little stop start with league fixtures due to us progressing in cups.”
“Luckily we have stayed in 2nd place and still have 3 games in hand and already beat the 3 of the top 4 teams, so that has helped.”
“The league is our bread and butter and our aim is to get promoted this season, one way or another, so we need to build on the great start we have already had.”
1874 head into this weekend’s fixtures off the back of a comfortable 3-0 return against Stone in midweek, and Herbert was full of praise for the side at full time.
“We had some huge performances especially in the first half. Our midfield 3 were outstanding in Mark Jones, Chris McCann and Jacson Coppack.”
“Jacson is getting better and better after every game and we are seeing why he was so highly thought of at Burnley before his injury problems.”
“He was powerful and aggressive on Tuesday night and deserves his plaudits. He not only can play but also digs in and does the horrible stuff to help the team out.”
Wolverhampton Casuals occupy 18th position heading into this weekend’s fixture, but Herbert was cautious about their position and expects a tough test.
“Wolverhampton Casuals can not be taken lightly.”
“As I said to the lads at training, they are not at the bottom because they have been getting a pasting every week, they are getting beat by the odd goal, they stay in games and have played a lot of the top teams already.”
“With them being at home against us it will be a very tough game.”
