Chris Herbert has urged all 1874 fans to make the journey to Guiseley this afternoon, as his side look to match the club record for the furthest stage reached in the Emirates FA Cup.
1874 are in fine form, winning all 6 league matches to date, with their only loss in the campaign so far coming against Wakefield in the FA Vase. Ahead of the Green’s this weekend poses a different challenge, as they take on an in-form Guiseley side, ranked two divisions higher.
On facing Guiseley, Herbert said “Like the last round against Stocksbridge Steels, we are the underdogs and are going there with nothing to lose.”
“What we need is them to have a bit of an off day and us be right at it. We are under no illusions that they are a top side fighting at the top of their league.
“They are a big strong outfit, we have to nullify them and stay in the game as long as we possibly can.”
Ahead of the huge fixture this weekend, 1874 were boosted with the news that Liam Fitzpatrick has committed to sign a contract at the club. Fitzpatrick has been in fine form this season and Herbert was quick to praise the winger.
“Liam deserves this, it’s clear to see Liam can play higher up the pyramid, but he knows what we are building here, he is a huge part of our future plans.
He is clearly already a fans favourite.”
Finally, with his side facing their toughest test of the season so far, Chris has urged all 1874 fans and the town of Northwich to get behind his side this afternoon.
“For us to have any chance against Guiseley we need the fans to be loud and keep the lads going. They have no idea how big they are to us. We need them singing in their numbers all game. Let’s enjoy the occasion together”.
