1874 NORTHWICH FC REACH CUP FINAL AGAIN

1874 reached the final of the Mid Cheshire Senior Cup again with an impressive 4-1 win over Witton Albion last evening at the St Lukes Barton Stadium.
They did so after having gone behind as the Albion skipper, Karl Noon, had put his side ahead in the ninth minute as he collected a good through ball to advance past the 1874 defence before firing past Greg Hall with his effort striking the post before going into the net
But rather than settling the visitors this goal seemed to stun 1874 into a more determined mode to take the game to their opponents and chances were created for Tom Bailey, Joe Woolley, Tyler Edwards and Jason Carey but the Witton defence held firm.
However, that was to change in an inspired ten minute spell just before half time as firstly Woolley combined well with Carey before slotting the ball home after 38 minutes and then just five minutes later Carey netted himself as he headed home a corner from Sam Hare

At the start of the second half 1874 continued to press the visitors and they moved the ball around quite impressively as they searched for the all important third goal. Tom Bailey and Jason Carey both came close to scoring before the goal came after 62 minutes and it was Ryan Mitchell who applied the finishing touch after Carey had flicked on another excellent corner from Hare.

Witton tried their best to get into the game but in truth 1874 looked very comfortable as they kept them at bay and when the fourth goal came for 1874 it was no surprise. Mitchell was involved again as his deft backheel across the penalty area was eagerly met by Jordan Bove and he applied the finishing touch.

The match was sponsored by Eddie Phillips who kindly gave a Player of the Match Award to each team – Karl Noon was the recipient for Witton whilst Joe Woolley received his award after the game from Alan Andrews
