No 188 20/05/2016

Well the 2015/16 season has now really finished for 1874 Northwich FC. Of course it is now almost a fortnight since we played our last game against the NWCFL Champions Colne but since then we have had our Annual Presentation Evening last Friday and then on Tuesday this week we had a very open and informative fans meeting at Lostock Social Club so here we go with another quite “full” Newsletter

PRESENTATION EVENING 2015/15 SEASON

There were 120 players and supporters assembled at Winnington Rec Social Club and along with the Under 21’s team sponsors everyone enjoyed the excellent meal provided by Louise of Mid Cheshire Catering
louise@midcheshirecatering.co.uk for details of her services

The awards presented to our Under 21 winners by Josh and Alan Hoare were:

1874 Northwich FC Under 21 Goal of the Season – Taylor Kennerley

1874 Northwich FC Under 21 Managers Player – Sam Hill

1874 Northwich FC Under 21 Players Player – Nathan Heap

The first award for the First team was a slightly “tongue in cheek” one chosen and presented by Manager Ian Street:

1874 Northwich FC MOST IMPROVED PLAYER – NEIL CHAPPELL

Followed by the more serious awards:

1874 Northwich FC PLAYERS PLAYER OF THE SEASON – MATTHEW BEADLE

1874 Northwich FC MANAGERS PLAYER OF THE SEASON – PAUL CONNOR

1874 Northwich FC GOAL OF THE SEASON (voted for by supporters – STUART WELLSTEAD
For his powerful finish after an excellent team build up v ASHTON ATHLETIC 5TH April

And finally the top award again voted for by the supporters:
1874 NORTHWICH FC PLAYER OF THE SEASON – MATTHEW BEADLE

Beadle

Matthew Beadle received his award
from his kit sponsors Jack and Gwen Owen

However, Matthew just missed out on being crowned the NWCFL’s premier Division Top goal scorer as Atherton Colliers’ Mark Battersby netted a hat trick in the Men United Cup Final to take his tally to 35 goals (23 in the league and 12 cup goals) whilst Matthew Beadle finished with 34 goals ( 29 in the league and 5 cup goals) and as such he narrowly “failed” to be the top goal scorer in league matches as Jason Hart from Colne netted 30 league goals in his total of 34 goals but it was still a very satisfying season for Matthew.

There were the usual money making matters at the Presentation Evening with Neil Chappell being a proper winner of the scratch card (his winning celebrity being Prince Harry – you just couldn’t make that up!) and a good few attendees walked away with some excellent prizes from the well supported raffle with Matt Woolley winning more prizes than anyone else whilst the very well supported 300 club’s latest draw had two “first time” winners amongst the SIX winners.

The club would like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and supported it on the evening and a special thanks to Guy Jewell who oversaw all the “money raising events” so efficiently

Thank you for your continued support – it really helps to fund your football club.

A BIG HIGHLIGHT OF THE PRESENTATION EVENING WAS THE SUPERB SKILLS OF CHRIS BORLEY – HIS DEDICATION THROUGHOUT THE SEASON TO FILM AS MANY 1874 GAMES AS HE CAN IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED BY SO MANY AND HIS TALENTS WERE AGAIN ON SHOW AT THE PRESENTATION EVENING. HE SHOWED MANY HIGHLIGHTS BUT HIS CLIPS OF MICHAEL BRANDON’S FANTASTIC EFFORTS FOR THE CLUB OVER THREE SEASONS HAD MIKE (AND OTHERS CLOSE TO TEARS)
MANY THANKS CHRIS

Our Football Secretary Vicki England was on hand to present Mike with a canvas print of his infamous goal celebration taking his shirt off to acknowledge the fans appreciation.
(Editor’s Note: Vicki also requested one of these prints too!)

MEETING WITH SUPPORTERS – TUESDAY 17th MAY

Approximately ninety people including Manager, Ian Street and his Assistant Paul Bowyer attended a meeting at Lostock Social to receive some updates about their Football Club. James Wood gave an update of the Business Plan and also progress re short and long term options re ground/stadium development. Attendees were then asked to chat in small groups for 15 minutes and come up with a few important objectives for our Football Club. This exercise, in the main, was well received and provided some interesting thoughts to take forward.
There then followed an excellent presentation entitled “1874 Northwich Branding Proposal” This was presented by John Darcy (an 1874 supporter of approx two years standing) and he had been assisted by Ashley Dobell and Ben Clark two other 1874 supporters.

1874 Northwich Branding Proposal

Beadle Branding

Most of the presentation was well received by all of the audience with only the odd frown to some of the images/thoughts shown in the presentation but at the end it was agreed that the club does need to make progress on the bulk of the ideas and as quickly as possible
Much of the content centred on trying to communicate better with supporters, the community (all age groups), possible working partnerships and potential sponsors. Ideally all of this would be linked with a modern easily understood website, regular social media updates , match day programme, commercial brochure and links with various businesses, sponsors and educational establishments. Lots of work but certainly doable and extremely worthwhile. The presentation showed many examples of possible improvements and this is just one of them:

Branding

Our Annual Beer Festival.

This will take place at Lostock Social Club on Saturday 4th JUNE
This annual event is not only a really enjoyable one it is also one of our biggest fundraisers
Tickets are on sale from Level One Computers, Brew to Bottle and Lostock Social Club as well as from 1874’s Board members. They are £5 each so please get yours as soon as possible
**
As #team74 builds and prepares to cycle in the Northwich Pedal Power event on 12 June, we have opened a Justgiving page for anyone who would like to donate. Once again we are supporting Neuro Muscular Centre as we near the end of our year long charity partnership.
However we look forward to maintaining the links that we have built over this last year and supporting the NMCENTRE in the future.

EASYFUNDRAISING

This is quite simply what it says: EASYFUNDRAISING
It really is one of the simplest ways to raise funds for the club without putting your hands in your pockets. If you order anything on line then this is for you,

We have raised some money already (nearly £600) but many other clubs through this scheme have raised more and some as much as £7,000 which is an awful lot of money.

Some have changed energy suppliers through U Switch and raised money whilst many other companies and businesses are willing to “reward” purchasers who buy items on line from them. Just register with easyfundraising at //www.easyfundraising.org.uk/register
and follow these simple instructions at http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/how-it-works/

These are just some of the many companies whereby if you order on line from them YOUR Football Club can be better off: AMAZON; EBay; JOHN LEWIS; DEBENHAMS; ARGOS; BOOKING.COM; CLARKS; VIVIENNE WESTWOOD; SKY; THOAMS COOK; THE BOOK PEOPLE; HOUSE OF FRASER’ STAPLES; ONLY M & S; HOUSE OF FRASER; TOYS R US; DELL; JUST EAT; ASDA; TESCO and WAITROSE

You know it makes sense – PLEASE REGISTER NOW www.easyfundraising.org.uk/register

Manager Ian Street and Chairman Paul Stockton were both presented with a canvas print in recognition of all their hard work through the season and to remind them of the club’s fantastic 3-0 Cup win over Witton Albion
