1874 Northwich are delighted to confirm that young goalkeeper, Mike Shorthouse, has agreed to stay at the club for the upcoming campaign.
Mike, 17, joined the club in January after leaving the Connah’s Quay Nomads youth setup. Since then, he has spent some time in the Altrincham academy.
Mike made his senior debut on the 23rd March in our 2-2 away draw at Trafford’s Shawe View. Mike made some great saves and impressed with his long-range kicking accuracy.
He finished the season by playing in all of the last three matches and suffered a head injury after a collision against Clitheroe. He was patched up and finished the game wearing a bandage around his head. A well-earned Man of the Match award.
Mike has shown great commitment and effort for the club and we are please that he has agreed to stay with us.
Chris Herbert commented, “Getting Mike and Joel to commit was big, they are the future of 1874 Northwich.”
“Mike was very good when I came in to the club. He was tested a lot last 3 games of the season with the problems we had, but he kept us in games more often than not, he never made a mistake for any goals since I came here, so long may it continue, his distribution and shot stopping as well as his handling were top draw, he will still fill out more and is still growing. He is another boy with a big future if he can keep the standards he has set for himself.”
“The future is exciting at this club. And it’s our job to constantly improve them and guide them the right way.”
