U21s’ get back to winning ways

After 3 consecutive defeats the U21’s got back to winning ways at a blustery Sandbach last Sunday.

After an impeccably observed minutes silence by both teams, 1874 soon got into gear with the opening goal after just 5 minutes.  Lewis Barlow latched onto a loose ball and showing great resilience, placed his shot wide of the keeper. The strong wind was causing Sandbach some problems especially when James Marsh let fly from 40 yards, the keeper was relieved to see his shot go just past the post.

Just on half time 1874 increased their lead with Matty Moore supplying the cross from the left to give Taylor Kennerley a simple tap in, half time 2-0 to 1874.

Joe Rogerson, a recent acquisition form Nantwich Town, came on to make his debut and soon after Elliot Watkins pounced on a goal keeping error to calmly slot the ball home into an empty net. 1874 were by far the better side and were constantly a threat to the Sandbach goal however Sandbach broke clear and having been played on side, the Sandbach forward scored with a great finish. 1874 were comfortably in control for the last half hour and could have increased their lead. The final whistle came and a 3-1 victory against Sandbach as well as stopping a run of three defeats also meant that 1874 U21’s went back to the top of the Championship division.
