West End Boys 3-5 1874
1874 Northwich U21’s travelled to Denton to take on West End Boys AFC on what can only be best described as a bobbly pitch.
The squad was decimated through a number of players being unavailable and only one sub was named on the bench.
The team showed 7 changes from last weekend but this didn’t seem to faze the team as we scored after 20 seconds through Elliot Watkins.
Callum McGhee made it 2-0 latching onto a through ball and lifting it over the keeper.
1874 survived a strong claim for a penalty however West End Boys soon pulled one back with a header from a corner.
It was soon 2-2 when a West striker, managed to breaki through the defence and although he looked suspiciously offside he kept his calm and fired into the net.
Zac Whelan immediately restored 1874’s lead with a lovely finish having come inside from the right.
Half time 3-2.
1874 nearly put the game to bed when Callum McGhee hit the post however West pulled level with another header this time going in off the post.
West had their tails up at this stage and threatened the 1874 goal but with their best chance Jack Williams tipped a fierce shot over the bar.
With 15 minutes left 1874 restored their lead with Elliot Watkins scoring his second of the day following a through ball from Zac Whelan.
A turning point of the match followed soon after with a West player breaking through following a defensive error and was one on one with Jack Williams but could not get past him as he pulled off two great saves.
The opposition heads dropped and 1874 were able to capitalise on this with the fifth goal that their play deserved with Elliot Watkins getting his hat trick finishing off a through ball from Nathan Heap.
One West player was not happy with the referee’s performance & told him so and was deservedly shown a straight red.
A great win for the team which puts them second in the league. Next up is our first home game against West Kirkby and Wasps at Moss Farm with a 2pm kick off.
