A word with Woolley – Trafford

Interim manager Matt Woolley expects a tough task this weekend against an in form Trafford side, who in recent weeks have pulled themselves away from the relegation zone.

Coming off the back of two defeats by a single goal, Woolley has praised the improvements in the defence since he and Mark Jones retook temporary charge.

“It’s a key part of any team to have a solid defensive foundation to allow you to go and score up the other end.”

“I feel we have been solid and been competitive since Mark and I took back over however the challenge is to create and score some goals.

“Unfortunately throughout the season that has been our downfall. We are working hard to try to find a way to change that however unfortunately time us running out.”

The last time 1874 faced Trafford saw a 4-0 defeat, and Woolley is looking for the team to give a better account of themselves this time out.

“In the reverse fixture we didn’t lay a glove on Trafford in a game at that stage we needed to win, that was my biggest disappointment.”

“I am expecting Trafford to be like every team in the league, organised, hard working and have some players who can cause us problems.”

“They have been in pretty decent form and have really pulled away from the relegation spots since Karl went in there.”

Finally, before the game against Trafford, Matt reflected on Tuesday nights personal milestone in reaching a staggering 400 appearances for the club.

“It was a proud moment for me personally, I have loved playing for this football club even in the difficult times such as this season.”

“I have been part of some great days that will live long in the memory and met some brilliant people along the way. It was just a shame we couldn’t get the win to make it a more memorable evening.”
