By Garry Clarke
1874 Northwich claimed their second pre-season victory of the campaign winning 5-3 in an entertaining game at Cheshire League Knutsford.
Joe Woolley shot into his former club’s side netting in the opening minutes and Aaron Clayton struck a post before the home side took the lead in the 10th minute. Ebbie Reyayan reacted first to net from the rebound after Greg Hall had saved a free kick but could not hold onto the fierce drive.
Kazim Waite-Jackson and Jack Lever both shot just over the bar while Scott McGowan drew a fine save from the Knutsford keeper before Adam Whitlock equalised in the 40th minute turning home a Lever cross.
Three minutes into the second half Whitlock turned provider setting up Woolley to fire 1874 in front. The lead lasted until the 60th minute when Hall was unable to keep out a long range Jake Maunder shot.
1874 regained the lead in the 73rd minute when Waite-Jackson cut in from the left to unleash a right foot shot which flew into the back of the net. Knutsford’s Steve Jennions increased 1874’s lead in the 80th minute heading into his own net before Scott McGowan slotted home 1874’s fifth in the 83rd minute.
Knutsford’s Dave Owens rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute smashing home a penalty after a Knutsford player was felled by a clumsy challenge.
