Alex Dickinson has been responsible for overseeing our youth development since the start of 1874. Thanks to his efforts we have seen U21 successes and a growth in the Junior section from one team in 2017 to six teams for the 2023/24 season. However, all good things come to an end and he has indicated that he will not be seeking re-election at the next AGM in November. Given the current growth in the Junior section and ambitious future plans, Peter Flaherty has been co-opted to the Board, to work alongside Alex to ensure continuity for future seasons.
Peter is a coach with the U12 teams, who play in the South Cheshire Youth League. U12 Greens will also play in the Junior Premier League. Peter and his family are familiar faces at 1874 senior matches and he is also an active referee, so he brings a wealth of experience to the Board. We are delighted that he has agreed to join us and are looking forward to working with him to further develop our youth set up.
Outgoing Director Alex says “It makes sense that Pete who is actively involved within our existing junior set up takes over the reins for Youth Development within the football club. I have enjoyed my time as the director responsible for youth development and I’m proud of the progress the club has made over the years. Pete will be a great asset to the board in growing the ever expanding youth section both on and off the field. “
