WARRINGTON TOWN 0-0 1874 NORTHWICH PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY 21ST JULY 2014
1874 Northwich drew 0-0 at Evostik League First Division North Warrington Town in their latest pre-season friendly on a warm summers evening. In an open entertaining competitive encounter play switched from end to end as, although the home side had the greater share of play, 1874 matched their hosts who finished third in a league two steps higher than themselves last season.
Neither side were able to break the deadlock due to a combination of good defending by two solid defensive units and several final balls into their opponent’s penalty area failing to find their intended targets. The uneven surface at Cantilever Park contributed to some of the wayward passing.
Warrington, who beat 1874 2-0 in a pre-season game 12 months ago, created numerous opportunities but were constantly thwarted by the outstanding Matt Conkie, who pulled off several fine saves.
The closest 1874 came to scoring was when Matty Ward cut inside from the left on the hour mark, drifted past two Warrington defenders and struck the cross bar with a shot.
1874 – Conkie, Mitchell, Duckworth, Farnworth, Trialist, Woolley (Stewart 66mins), Connor, Bailey (Hamer 55mins), Brandon (Beadle 55mins), Hurst (Igenoza 60mins), Ward (Trialist 76mins).
