Our Club is run by the fans for the fans and we can’t do that without volunteers. We are very fortunate to have great people who give their time and skills to help run our Club but there is always room for more. Whether you are a financial whizz, fantastic at making brews or if you just like to do practical work around the ground, there is plenty to do and opportunities galore. So don’t be shy, speak to a board member or fill out the form below and get involved. Whether it is for one hour per month, or taking on a long term project, all help will be gratefully received. And it doesn’t need to be something that we are already doing….you may have skills that you can apply to running a football club, that we haven’t considered. You might want to be involved in our community projects, or our Junior set up or walking footballers, it doesn’t have to be about the first team. The only restriction is that any volunteer working with children will need to go through our vetting process and be DBS cleared.
Current Volunteering Opportunities
As we prepare for the 2026/27 season and our return to Step 4 football in the Northern Premier League – West Division, we have identified a number of volunteer roles that need filling. Many hands make light work, so even if you can only help occasionally, please consider volunteering.
MATCHDAY ROLES
Club Photographer
Working in conjunction with the club’s Media Officer, 1874 Northwich requires a matchday photographer in order to capture matchday action both home and away. Your work will be used for the purposes of promoting the club via the matchday programme, club website, club newsletter and any other future use, of benefit to the club. We will also encourage our media partners such as local newspapers and the leagues to use your work, along with promoting it on a number of significant social media channels.
We require that all copyright is retained by the club, however you will be free to use any media you take for personal & academic use, and for the building of personal portfolios. As such this role would be ideal for a photography student or hobbyist.
This is an exciting opportunity to capture moments in the history of our club and you will have free pitch side access to all our home and away matches. We are proud to highlight that previous Club Photographers have gone on to have fantastic experiences and careers, which we are delighted about.
Please contact the club at society@1874northwich.com if you are interested in this voluntary position.
Gate Duties
We have four roles:
- two turnstile operators (spectators) – open from an hour and a half before kick off
- gate operator (officials and players) – this requires getting to the ground early to manage players and officials entry into the ground via the players entrance and then moving to the main entrance to admit visiting officials, players guests and season ticket holders.
- late gate operator – once the turnstiles are closed, this role involves giving access to latecomers and collecting their payment.
Catering
There are three regular roles and one needed for larger games.
- At least, two people to set up and run the matchday cafe, serving drinks, pies etc. The cafe will be open from an hour and a half before kick off to just after half time.
- Preparation of players’ food – typically prepared in the second half of a match.
- On matches with a large attendance, we require someone to serve teas and coffees in a second tea hut.
Volunteer Stewards
- the role of the steward is to help to provide a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere at our home matches and to provide a visible point of contact for fans, in cases of incidents or just as a point of information. We do not expect you to take on any safety critical or security roles, it is purely around customer service. You would be the first point of contact if any fans have any issues
- fire wardens – we will train you to be able to react in an emergency involving fire.
- first aiders – we require first aiders to be able to help us to implement our medical emergency action plan – full training will be provided
- on-street parking steward – with bigger crowds comes greater parking challenges and this role requires someone to patrol the local streets and ensure that drives are not blocked, bus routes are not impeded. It will require you to be monitoring the parking until at least 20 mins after kick off.
Matchday Operations Manager
This role would suit someone who wants a project to get their teeth into. You would be responsible for ensuring that matchdays run smoothly, that we have volunteers to cover critical roles and to troubleshoot any problems as they occur.
Post Match
There are five roles relating to post match activity, the first two must be done on the matchday, the remaining three tasks can be done the following day.
- serving food to both home and away players, and the referees
- cleaning the Kitchen area
- cleaning the club house area (clearing away cans / cups, wiping tables and hoovering the floor)
- cleaning the changing rooms and spectator toilets
- litter picking and general tidying of the ground
SAFEGUARDING
Safeguarding is a part of the Step 4 licensing requirements. This season we are required to have a Board Safeguarding Champion, in addition to the Club Welfare Officer. Maggie Coats has been given that role and so needs two assistant welfare officers to support her, one for the first team and one for the juniors.
- Assistant welfare officer (adult teams)
- Assistant welfare officer (junior teams)
For more information, or to volunteer for any of these roles, please contact Maggie Coats, society@1874northwich.com, tel: 07808765110, alternatively, please complete the form below. You can be an active part of our fantastic club. It is great to be able to help the Club develop and the more people that get involved the quicker we can improve. Come on, give it a try…..
