Recap
Tuesday 28 July
In their fifth friendly of pre-season, 1874 travelled to Evo Stik Premier League side Skelmersdale United.
1874 got off to a great start with Aaron Kirk playing a ball over the top to allow Chris Lunn to control and lob the Skem keeper.
United levelled the match after a good piece of hold up play allowed Kirkbride to run on and finish past Conkie. Just before half time, Skelmersdale made it 2-1 after a corner came in from the right and wasn’t dealt with properly, it was scrambled home by the United forward.
A complete change of 11 from Skem and two for 1874 and the second half was underway. Skem increased their lead with a powerful long range effort from the Number 9.
Goal number four soon followed, Number 9 was once again involved as he played a reverse ball behind Lomas, and the onrushing Skem player finished past Conkie.
1874 clawed one back from a corner, Ryan Jackson was on hand to blast home after the ball bounced his way from a scramble in the box. Stu Tulloch rolled back the years on the 90th minute as he found himself through on the Skem goal, and finished well to make it 4-3.
A good competitive game played at a high tempo and standard which 1874 more than held their own. Best of luck to Skelmersdale in their upcoming season.
