Ahead of Saturday’s crunch match with Hednesford Town, caretaker manager Mark Jones has urged the fans to get behind his side.
1874 Northwich currently sit 20th in the league, with their opponents this weekend occupying one position above. A win on Saturday for 1874 would begin to close the gap ahead of an important run of fixtures, and Jones stressed the importance of the team starting the match with the right attitude.
‘It’s a massive game for us Saturday, as all games are at this stage. Obviously this weekend has more on it with the position both teams are in.’
‘I expect them to be full of energy and aggressive. They recently have had a new manger on board so a lot of lads will be trying to impress. We need to match them with the same attitude and commitment we have had during the last couple of games in order to get a result.’
Last time out, 1874 ended up on the receiving end of a defeat to the league leaders in Leek Town. Despite this, Mark spoke about his pride in the performance, and highlighted the impressive display from both the new debutants and Isaac Noble.
‘Last week hurt – the lads battled hard and did themselves proud. On another day we may have earned a point, but not many teams have done against Leek this season.’
‘Both lads (Oliver Partington and Ewan McGeady) did really well. I was impressed in the way that they listened to what we wanted and expected from them. Credit to Issac as well, who played out of position and did really well for us also.’
Finally, ahead of a crucial week of fixtures, Jones has asked the fans to get behind the side as they look to change the season’s fortunes.
‘As a team it’s massive for us players for the fans to be behind us as they have done week in week out. The next 3 games can define where we may be next season so we need as many fans to turn up and as much noise to get behind the lads.’
