Ahead of the new campaign and before the usual announcements are made about player recruitment, the Club would like to let supporters know that Paul Connor, has decided to move on and end his association with 1874.
Paul joined the club from Maine Road, with his arrival being announced on 15 June 2014. He made his debut in a green shirt on 9 July in a friendly against Lostock Gralam and he started his first competitive game on 2 August 2014 against AFC Blackpool (away). Paul went on to make 222 appearances for the Greens in the five years, and he turned out to be an integral part of the team in that time.
His commitment, positive attitude and talent quickly made him a real fans favourite. Paul showed that he was as good off the field, as he was on it by building a terrific relationship with everyone at the club and especially the supporters. Paul understood the ethos of 1874 and what the club meant to people and he embraced everything about 1874 life. He joined in fundraising initiatives and will always be remembered for trying to cycle around Manchester on a rickety old bike, but as he was being sponsored for the club’s charity partner, he put his usual amount of effort and enthusiasm into the event!
The term ‘legend’ is generally overused in football however in the eyes of 1874 supporters, Paul Connor will always be seen as that. A hugely popular player, who gave his all for the cause. We would like to sincerely thank Paul for his amazing contribution and loyalty and for helping to establish the club in its earliest years. Everyone at 1874 wishes Paul, and his lovely family, very best wishes for the future. We know he won’t be a stranger and will take in games when he is able.
Thanks Connors!!
