Ahead of Saturday’s away game against Avro, 1874 boss Chris Herbert has praised the attitude from the squad and hopes to finish the season on a high.
In his debut match, the greens were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat against Clitheroe. Reflecting on the performance, Chris said:
“I think Saturday shown the best and worst of us. We dug in first half and could have been 2-3 down, but fair play to the lads, they dug in and got their reward with the equaliser just before half time.”
“Second half we started really well with Joel Jones causing them problems with his movement, and Chris McCann showing his experience by playing in the right areas and putting their back four under pressure and making them back off us a bit.”
“Obviously they are a big powerful side and do have a bit extra quality and in the end it did show in the end. They were ruthless with us, and we lost complete concentration and we paid the price for it and deservedly so.”
“It’s my job now to get this out of our system and do everything we can to get 3 points on Saturday and give our fans something to smile about.”
1874 head into the final two games unable to alter their position in the table, but could have a big say on the playoff positions. Herbert however expects a tough task this weekend against an efficient Avro side.
“I have seen Avro a few times this season and they are a good solid, efficient side, they are tough to break down and they like to key it in to their two wide men very quickly, and it works for them.”
“It’s all about how we perform, if we perform like I know we can and stick to the game plan we have every chance and don’t need to fear anyone. If we are to win it is going to take everything we have got and we can’t leave anything in the tank. The lads will be ready.”
