The Club is obviously disappointed that today’s Bank Holiday derby against Winsford United had to be postponed.
Despite the efforts of volunteers to remove a significant amount of surface water from one area of the pitch, it proved to be too tall an order. The constant showers throughout the morning, also hampered the volunteers work.
An inspection was arranged for approximately 11.15am, to give the pitch every chance to recover. However when the Referee arrived (after conducting another inspection in the area) he had no hesitation in deeming it unfit to play.
We would like to offer our thanks to those supporters who helped on the pitch this morning, led by Chairman Paul and Dave Taylor from WUFC. We would also like to sincerely thank the great people who help to stage the game, including Carol Borley and Mrs Wood who prepare the food for the sponsors and officials and to Debbie and the team from Winsford United, who prepare food for the players and stock the bar/tea bar. We understand that this situation was not easy for them, as they had already started on ‘their duties’ and therefore we truly appreciate their efforts.
The Stadium Gang will continue to work on the pitch in the morning, to prepare it for our Mid Cheshire Cup match against Barnton on Wednesday evening, kick off 7.45pm.
