From the Dugout with Chris Herbert: Lichfield City (A)

1874 Northwich head south to Lichfield City tomorrow to face the league leaders. It is the first repeat fixture of the season, with the reverse ending in a 2-1 victory for the Greens on the opening day.

Chris Herbert commented on the previous meeting: “Lichfield will be right up for it and hoping to get revenge, like any team that have been beaten by us. It’s up to us to be professional and stick to our game plan. In the first game we should have been out of site in the first half. Because we didn’t take our chances, we left them in the game and they were a little unfortunate, in the second half to not take a point home with them. We can’t let that happen again. We have to be ruthless.”

“We will have our strongest squad of the season available tomorrow and every player will be needed to have a big impact on the game.”

“We have had to make some huge decisions to leave lads out of the matchday squad. So, it’s up to the lads involved to keep their game at the levels we require.”

Joining the squad is defensive new addition, Theo Robinson, adding some quality and competition to the left side of defence.

Chris spoke on what we can expect in terms competition and rotation: “I don’t like rotating, for me if they are playing well and doing the jobs asked of them then you should start. If not, with the quality we have you will be on the bench waiting their turn. It’s such a strong squad when we have everyone fit, and we feel with the few signings we have made we are now hoping we can kick on with a settled squad who all have a huge part to play if we are to be successful this season.”

Wednesday night saw Salford-loanee Harry Showman score a hattrick, again highlighting the depth and competition in the squad.

Chris Herbert added: “Harry is an honest hard-working striker, he came in to the club with a few niggles, so it’s taken a little time to get him going, but now he is firing on all cylinders. We have very strong attackers and we can mix things up. Joel Jones, Scotty McGowan and Harry Showman are all goal scorers, whether we play two up top or one down the middle, they all have goals in them.”

“Harry was ruthless in front of goal on Wednesday night. Long may it continue. Ruthlessness is the key as a striker.”

“Tomorrow is undoubtedly our biggest game of the season so far, we feel we are just getting there with our form now, and we need the fans to really push the lads on, this could be a pivotal moment in our season and we need everyone involved at the club doing their part.”

“Myself, Steve, the rest of our coaching staff and players look forward to seeing and hearing you all loud and proud tomorrow afternoon. 💚”
