From the Dugout with Chris Herbert: Stourport Swifts (A)

Ahead of this afternoon’s fixture away at Stourport Swifts, Chris Herbert has emphasised the importance of finding different ways to win as the campaign enters the business end of the season.

Coming off the back of a 4-0 defeat last time out in the league, 1874 responded with a disciplined 1-0 victory last weekend. On the performance, Herbert said:

“In the first 30 mins we were excellent, but we just did not capitalise on the dominance and it kept Wulfs in the game.”

“2nd half we just could not get going up the hill. We didn’t dominate enough in the middle and we were not getting on to the 2nd balls, it has to be better and it will get better. We just have to have more energy and willingness to put teams to bed. It’s definitely an improvement and it will keep getting better. We need to keep the challenge going.”

“However, football is all about winning games of football to me, it’s important that we show performance levels are there, but if not we have to grind out 3 points no matter what.”

“We have to plan differently for different occasions. It’s clear that we have very good footballers in the team, and the better the pitch the better the football, but we need to do the horrible stuff better when we are at home.”

“The likes of Lichfield, Brocton and Shifnal have made their home ground a bit of a fortress and we need to be the same and find a way to be better in the winter months at home.”

“There will be a big difference in levels of performance and possession once the pitches start clearing up a bit over the next 2-3 weeks. We can play more football on it and we are a very good footballing team.”

“It’s important more now than ever to show the support, we are still in with a chance of the league and teams will drop points.”

“We want to be there to jump all over them when the chance comes, and we need the crowd to give us that push all the way until the end of the season.”
