1874 boss Chris Herbert has heaped praise on the squad after a dogged performance against Stone kept their 100% record in the league intact.
’74 fell behind in the first half and it wasn’t until the latter stages of the second that the Greens made their dominance pay, courtesy of a Joel Jones double.
“Obviously the plaudits went to Joel for the 2 goals, but them two (Matt Woolley and Chris McCann) in midfield were a different class and showed a calmness about them.”
“In the end that was the main factor of how we won the game.”
“I said it on the night to the lads, teams know our threats now and they will come and try and put everyone behind the ball and try and catch us on the break, but as I said, we will always find a way, and we will always score goals. It’s a long hard slog to just defend against us and as proven on Tuesday, we just had too much in the end.”
With fixtures coming quick a fast, the importance of the strength and depth of the squad is becoming evident, and despite several players missing ahead of the fixture away at Tividale this afternoon, Herbert has faith in all members as they wait to take their chance.
“The squad has been great, at the end of the day we are winning games and lads have to wait their turn, it will come for them and as a squad they all back each other up every single game. It’s a great trait and attitude to have.”
“Obviously we have Jacson Coppack, Josh Oultram, and Ash Wardle all returning to the squad Saturday and we have 12 lads out of the squad with injuries and waiting their chance.”
“So far, everyone understands it’s just about waiting for their chance and taking it when it comes.”
“Tividale have been on a poor run, they will obviously look to bounce back at home in front of their own fans.”
“They play a 5/3/2 formation which turns in to a 3/5/2 when going forward and will look to get at us in wide areas.”
“We have our own threats and we will concentrate on that and let them worry about us.”
“On Tuesday the fans were loud and got us through the game. Let’s keep the away support coming and show we mean business.”
