From the Dugout with Chris Herbert: Whitchurch Alport (A)

After a stop-start October schedule, 1874 Northwich return to action this weekend with a trip to Whitchurch Alport – a familiar opponent in what promises to be another competitive clash between the two sides.

Reflecting on a month of sporadic fixtures, manager Chris Herbert admitted the lack of games has made it difficult to build momentum within the squad.

“Yes, it’s not ideal at all and does not help us at all,” Herbert said. “It’s a bit crazy having so many free weeks, but we have to deal with it and prepare accordingly for Whitchurch.”

Saturday’s meeting will be the third encounter between the clubs already this season, and Herbert expects another tight, competitive fixture.

“I expect a tough game as usual. They have a decent set-up and pitch, so we can play our football,” he explained. “With this amount of time off, we have to bounce straight back into momentum.”

Despite the stop-start nature of recent weeks, 1874 remain firmly in contention near the play-off places and the manager has made no secret of his ambitions.

“The play-offs is the bare minimum for us,” Herbert stated confidently. “We will be fine — we are strong and fit, and we know we have the quality. I expect us to push in there as soon as we catch up on games.”

The Greens will travel to Yockings Park without Dale Jennings, Liam Fitzpatrick, and Tom Morris, all sidelined with ankle injuries. However, Herbert sees this as a chance for others to stake a claim.

“So lads can come in and have a chance to get a place in the starting 11,” he said.

With plenty still to play for and confidence high within the camp, 1874 will be eager to make a statement away from home and continue their climb up the table.
