Managers Update 03/01

In the absence of a home match this week, 1874 Manager Ian Street gives his squad update.

Happy New Year to everyone associated with our club.

Well we find ourselves at the end of 2013 in a respectable second position in the league table, fingers crossed that we can maintain it for a few more months yet, it will be very tough but we will be giving it our best efforts.

Following last weeks 3-0 win at Widnes we now have a couple of weeks away from league action and have filled it with two games to keep us ticking over.

I thought our performance at Widnes was a bit sluggish and I felt that we never really got out of second gear but were still very comfortable, we had a light training session on the Friday afternoon at Moss Farm and I am glad that it paid dividends in contributing to us being mentally sharp which showed in the first 15 minutes of the game.

The friendly game on Saturday 4th January at Middlewich Sports Centre on the 4G is due to kick off around 2.15pm and is a chance for a few new faces to show us what they can do plus a few familiar faces getting some good minutes.

Probable team will be:

Matt Conkie, Ryan Mitchell, Paul Bowyer, Lee Duckworth, Trialist, Craig McGinley, Steve Murphy, Matt Woolley, Phil Coffin, Dean McGregor, Mike McGinley.

subs, Danny Thomas, Steve Crane, Daley Woods.

You are probably wondering who the two McGinley lads are, they have trained with us a couple of times and are working on their fitness, they are the sons of former Bolton Wanderers and Scotland striker John McGinley.

On the 11th January we will travel to Ashton Athletic FC where a more typical first team squad will be on show prior to our game at Cammell Laird FC in the Cheshire Senior cup on the 14th January.

Thanks to all for making 2013 enjoyable, onwards and upwards.

Ian.
