Managers Update 06/12

In the absence of a home match this week, 1874 Manager Ian Street gives his squad update.

Hello everyone.

Just a brief update on thoughts and news ahead of our visit to Nelson FC tomorrow.

I am very pleased with our results and form going into the game and although it is just another three points that is on the table if the result was to go our way it would be very beneficial to us against one of our close rivals at the top of the division.

It really isn’t a make or break game for our season and whether we get a favourable result or not it will not decide anything on the day, we know what we have to do going forward and that will not change whatever happens.

Both clubs go into the game with confidence high, Nelson scoring lots of goals recently and deservedly winning manager / club of the month for November, it will be a tough task and we will have to be at our best but it’s one myself and the players are very much looking forward to.

We are missing a couple of key players and a couple are not quite 100% at the moment but the strength of the squad should be able to cover for it, players are settled and playing well with good defensive, midfield and attacking units working well as individuals and as a team with each other.

A couple of players have moved on due to not getting regular football with us and that is understandable, it’s a very hard job to keep a squad of 18-20 players happy when only eleven can play but over the next couple of weeks the squad will be replenished and the right replacements found.

It’s disappointing that we are a bit stop start with our fixtures over the next few weeks with a few blank Saturdays due to various reasons beyond our control, I will be looking at trying to set up a few friendly games to maintain our fitness levels and keep us ticking over, that could be a difficult task at this time of year though, clubs have games planned already and they also understandably try to look after their pitches and can be reluctant to play too many games on them.

Thanks for all your continued support, see you soon.

Ian.
