Once again, we are extremely disappointed that this evening’s eagerly awaited Mid Cheshire Cup Semi Final against Barnton has had to be postponed.
This is an important game for both clubs and therefore we have tried everything we possibly can, to stage it.
Following all the wet weather over the Easter weekend, we were delighted when upon inspection early this morning, the pitch was found to be free of standing water and firm – meaning that it was playable. We communicated this to everyone as quickly as possible and did our very best to give the game every chance of being played. However sadly, during this afternoon, further rain and hailstones in the Winsford area affected the BS pitch. A further inspection took place at approximately 3pm, where we found standing water on areas of the pitch. Unfortunately, these areas deemed the game unplayable and the game had to be called off.
The club is aware that there are areas of the BS pitch that require further attention and we will continue to play our part in trying to address these issues. However the situation has been hampered by experiencing the wettest winter for many years.
It seems timely to once again, give our grateful thanks to the superb volunteers – from 1874 and Winsford – who work tirelessly on the facilities at the ground.
We fully appreciate that this is a frustrating situation for our supporters. It is clearly very hard for the players and the management team to prepare in such circumstances and it is difficult for those people who work to stage the game.
We can only apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment at present and can honestly say that the disruption is felt by everyone at 1874.
