GOALS OF THE SEASON

A – ADAM FOY away v Cheadle Town NWCFL 1st Division 21st August

75th minute – Adam Foy was to turn hero and save the day with a brilliant effort. A superb solo effort, the midfielder struck a perfect 25 yard strike low into the bottom corner having met a Ryan Mitchell cross.

B – LEE JONES home v AFC Darwen NWCFL 1st Division 19th October

38th minute – with 1874 pressing forward Mike Brandon laid the ball off to Lee Jones who from the edge of the area reduced the Darwen goalkeeper to the role of spectator as he spectacularly shot into the net.

C – RYAN STEWART away v Formby NWCFL  2DT 1st February

69th minute – Ryan Stewart reduced the areas with a rasping left foot drive from the edge of the area that sailed past the keeper into the top corner of the net.

D – MIKE BRANDON at Widnes v Formby NWCFL Cup 22nd February

35th minute – Matty Ward twisted and turned the defence out wide before whipping in a cross from the left which found Mike Brandon unmarked on the six yard line. 1874’s top scorer had all the time in the world to pick his spot as he powerfully headed home. The goal was described by Formby’s manager “the goal that beat us was first class – a cross from their winger and a great header, everything about it was top drawer”

E – MIKE BRANDON away v Atherton Colls NWCFL 1st Division 8th March

57th minute – Lee Duckworth and Matty Ward combined to set Ryan Stewart away down the left wing, his pin point cross was met by Brandon whose powerful header flew past the helpless keeper into the net.

F – MIKE BRANDON home v Atherton Colls NWCFL 1st Division 22nd March

80th minute – Matt Conkie’s clearance found Matty Ward with time and space in midfield to release a pass into the path of Daley Woods. Racing down the line Woods crossed the ball into the danger area 

where it was met by Brandon who powerfully headed home from six yards. A goal described by Ian Street as “a real team goal”

G – MIKE BRANDON home v Atherton LR NWCFL 1st Division 5th April

66th minute – A looping pass from Lee Jones took a slight deflection, but no matter, Brandon had times his run perfectly and unleashed a spectacular left footed volley from 25 yards out which flew  over the keeper and into the net.
