Scott McGowan | 1874 Northwich F.C.

Scott McGowan

1874 Northwich can confirm to its Members and Supporters that record goal scorer Scott McGowan has decided to leave the club to accept terms offered by Macclesfield FC.

Scott made 199 appearances for 1874; he returned from a spell with Nantwich Town at the end of the 2020/21 curtailed season and had no hesitation in agreeing to sign for the Club.  This was not dependent on whether we were upwardly moved as he was prepared to remain in the North West Counties Premier League to help the Club fight for the promotion it deserved.  However, the FA did place 1874 in the Northern Premier League – West, and this was a welcome bonus to Scott and everyone at the Club. All were excited for the season ahead, which of course started with his hat-trick as we retained the Macron Cup against Runcorn Town.

It has become apparent to us that over recent weeks, there has been regular contact between Scott and his new club.  A formal seven-day approach was subsequently received last week and contained the assurance that contact would not be made until the notice period had ended.  However, we were informed by Scott earlier this week that an agreement had been reached and he would be joining Macclesfield FC.

1874 Northwich would like to thank Scott for his valuable contribution to our club over the last few years.
