Taylor ties down deal for the new season

1874 were delighted to announce earlier today that fan favourite Taylor Kennerley has extended his contract for the 2019/20 season. On Thursday, Club Media Officer Matt Waters caught up with Taylor at training.

After scoring 15 goals in last season’s campaign, Taylor revealed he had no interest in leaving 1874 this season, “I love the club and the fans seem to enjoy me being here. As long as I’m getting regular football then I’m happy to stay.”

Looking ahead to the new season, Taylor said, “Promotion has to be the aim for this season. It’s 3 up next season and we’ve got to be right up there. That being said we want to have a good cup run this year after going out of the Vase so early last season.”

When asked if there was interest from higher leagues in Taylor’s services, he admitted, “There was, but why would I go to sit on a bench when I can play first team football here and enjoy it. I want to prove myself at this level and take the club as far as we can go.”

With the club due to play its first season in Northwich, Taylor believed it’s an exciting time for the club, “It’s great playing in your local town with people knowing you. As a team we like to play football and at times that has been difficult over the last few years but we feel Barnton will suit us a lot better.”

1874 co manager Wayne Goodison was delighted that Taylor has committed his future to the club. He said, “He’s developed immensely over the last two seasons and he has the capability to get even better if continues to work hard at his game. He knows how much we think of him as a person and a player. Bow and I are delighted that he’s extended his contract with us.”
