U21’s start league campaign with impressive win

The U21’s opened their league campaign last Sunday with an away fixture against Blacon Youth Club, a team making their debut in the Cheshire U21 Championship West division this season

From the first whistle 1874 looked sharper than Blacon and with only five minutes gone on the clock the early high tempo 1874 were playing paid off with Taylor Kennerley scoring from a right angle in the 18yard box powering the ball into the roof of the net. 1874 looked relaxed and calm throughout the first 20 minutes and scored two more goals but Blacon hit back soon after with 1874 taking their foot off the gas and having lost their shape a bit Blacon decided to throw players forward and with free man running through they took full advantage and slotted past Jack Williams to make it 3-1. 1874 did come back though with 2 further quick goals going in at half time 5-1 up. Understandably being 5-1 up at half time away from home 1874’s tempo dropped and passes started to go astray but skipper Zac Whelan (who was given the armband due to Sam Slack’s absence) rallied the team who responded with a sixth goal. Again though 1874 were caught sleeping and Blacon managed to slot home a second through poor defending from front to back. However even with 1874 not getting out of third gear all game managed to score a 7th and 8th but although the result was a great one, the performance could have and should have been much stronger. Final score 8-2

Goal scorers: Zac Whelan (3), Jamie Mountford, Robbie Simpson, Taylor Kennerley Chad Lowe and Jacob Williamson.
