1874 Northwich have bolstered their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season with the signing of experienced forward Mike Hayes from Flint Mountain.
The 37-year-old striker, who began his career at Connah’s Quay Nomads and has since featured for several clubs across the Welsh football pyramid; brings a wealth of experience and a proven goal-scoring pedigree to the Northwich side. Hayes had been with Flint Mountain since July 2023, where he played a key role in their Cymru North campaign.
Known for his physical presence, aerial ability, and intelligent movement off the ball, Hayes is expected to add leadership and depth to 1874 Northwich’s front line. His arrival comes at a crucial time as the club prepares for a demanding pre-season schedule.
1874 boss Chris Herbert expressed his excitement about the signing, highlighting Hayes’ professionalism and the positive influence he is expected to have both on and off the pitch:
“Mike will add pace to our front line. He is very experienced and has won several promotions, as well as playing in Europe and has always scored a lot of goals. He has a high work rate, makes great runs from behind and will be a threat to opposition defences. His goalscoring record speaks for itself and I’m sure he will be a bit hit with the fans.”
Hayes, who hails from Chester, has enjoyed a long and varied career, including stints at Bala Town, Caernarfon Town, and multiple spells with Connah’s Quay Nomads. His move to 1874 Northwich marks a return to English football and a new chapter in a career that has spanned over a decade.
“I am absolutely thrilled to sign for 1874 Northwich,” Hayes commented.
“I have spent the last 16 season playing in Wales achieving Welsh Cup Champions, league cup success, League championships and also numerous appearances in the Europa League. But it’s so exciting to be back playing in England.”
