From the Dugout with Chris Herbert: AFC Wolverhampton City (H)

After a mixed start to the season, ‘74 boss Chris Herbert is challenging his players to push on as they host in form AFC Wolverhampton City this afternoon in the Midland Football League.

1874 are yet to win at home this season, and Herbert is hoping fortunes will change as they look to benchmark themselves against one of the leagues strongest sides so far.

“This is the sort of test which shows where we are at as a team. We have almost a full squad starting the game so we will be strong, so no excuses. We have shuffled things around a bit and made sure we are ready to push on. We need 3 points and nothing less.

“At home we need to find a different way of playing, it’s no secret how we have been performing at home. We need to make our own pitch a fortress, it has to start today.”

Ahead of kick off this afternoon, new signing Haydn Cooper comes straight into the squad. Cooper, a previous title winner at this level, will add an extra dynamic into the midfield as Herbert’s side look to put together a run of form heading into September.

“Haydn is exactly what we have been missing, he adds that aggressiveness and leadership. It lets us move things around and play the way we have wanted to. He will go straight in to the starting 11 today.”

“We have been a little unlucky with a few injuries and lads away. But now we are looking more like it, on paper we are very strong now and we are looking to really get going and be consistent with our performances.”
