From the Dugout with Chris Herbert: Brocton (H)

Chris Herbert has urged ’74 fans to turn up in their numbers ahead of tomorrow’s crunch mate against Brocton.

On facing Brocton, Herbert said:

The game on Saturday is massive for us. It’s a 6 pointer; we need that win and we will be going all out to try and get it.

The players already know that, and we as coaches have emphasised this. We are training hard this week working on Brocton’s strengths and weaknesses, obviously trying to find a way to stop their attacking threat is the main one, without it affecting ours.

They get it in to the front 3 very quickly from the keeper and the defence, we have to stand strong like we did at the beginning of the season.

They have the 2 top scorers in the league, plus the other one in the top 10. Each one has got more goals individually than our top 2 scorers put together, that tells you the job in hand, and we haven’t been blessed with goals at home only scoring 16 all season, that has to improve no matter what on Saturday to win this game and take maximum points.

We are a stronger team now, and our scoring rate will change, we need that to show on Saturday. And really put on a professional display.

We have an excellent squad and the new signings John McGrath (who has set our last 3 goals up), Lucas Weir, Ben Guest and Owen Harrison have bedded in well with a great win away to AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday, Wulfrunians will give a lot of teams a run for their money this season, they were a decent outfit with good pace and energy, Tuesday night’s 4-2 victory against a full strength Lichfield tells you this, so it shows how good of a victory Saturday was and that was without, Matt Woolley, Scott McGowan, Jacson Coppack and Chris McCann. This week we have both Chris and Jaco back and will be included in the squad for Saturday at home to Brocton, who with Shifnal are the best two teams we have come up against this season, and I expect the same again Saturday from Brocton.

On our day, we are at least a match for anyone. We have not lost to any of the top sides around us this season, our only damage has been against the sides in the bottom half when we had a depleted squad with suspensions and injuries. We have to claw them points back now starting with Saturday.

We are a big side and we intend to use that height in the coming weeks and with the pitches being so difficult to play a lot of football on it’s important to mix it up.

It’s a huge game for us.

We want the place to be bouncing and give the lads the backing we need. Let’s keep the challenge going.

All in it together.

See you tomorrow, loud and proud.

Herbie.
