Ahead of today’s game against Highgate, Callum Waters caught up with Chris Herbert to gather his thoughts as we look to continue our fine run of form as we enter the business end of the season.
“The Whitchurch performance was very good. The squad was used to its maximum. There were late changes due to illness to a couple of our main players, John McGrath who has been arguably our best player over the past 3-4 games, missing because of a bug, we thought he would make the Saturday but was still ill and struggling to get out of bed. Chris McCann who has more experience than anyone in these leagues, out ill. Add that to Jacson Coppack Joel Jones and Owen Harrison, who are all out injured still, it just shows how well the lads done on Saturday and how strong of a squad we really are. Whitchurch Alport are a very good side and are in the quarter final of the FA Vase, they are no mugs that’s for sure. But we did not give them anything, we were very powerful and our decision making was excellent. That’s what we have been looking for all season and we have seen it coming lately. It’s put us right in the mix ready to take advantage of any slip ups.”
“We are in good form now, we have taken 10 points from 12 and that is with games against 2 of the top 5 and a much inform AFC Wulfrunians who beat Brocton 4-0 only last week. We are there or there abouts. We are bombing along right now and the lads are seeing their hard work come to fruition.”
“We just need to keep winning games and grinding the results out.”
“As anyone at the game Saturday can see, these lads are not letting go of trying to finish as high as we can and see where it takes us. We need to keep pressure on and just hope for slip ups as we can still win the league, Lichfield have been grinding results out at the right time and we, just like Brocton, Shifnal, Atherstone and Whitchurch, we are all there hoping for them to slip up and see if we can catch them. We have the best fans in the league, we feel we are the best team in the league, let’s make sure we stick together as a club and really push the lads over the line whether it be at home or away. We need every advantage we can get and it starts with the fans continuing to be as loud as they were at Whitchurch again this afternoon.”
