1874 Northwich are thrilled to announce the signing of goalkeeper Jack Atkinson from West Didsbury and Chorlton.
Jack, 24, joins the club with a wealth of non-league experience in the Northwest of England and in North Wales.
Jack spent time in the academies of Liverpool, Everton, Shrewsbury Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before taking his first steps into senior football with Bangor City.
Jack also had a couple seasons with Bury AFC where he lifted the North West Counties First Division North.
Following his time at Bury, Jack moved to the Northern Premier League Division One West with City of Liverpool and later to Vauxhall Motors, where he was until January this year.
Chris Herbert commented on his newest recruit:
“Jack is loud, with good distribution and commands his area very well.”
“We have been after a goalkeeper to battle it out with Mike [Shorthouse] for the number one slot most of the season, and when someone with the quality of Jack Atkinson becomes available you have to pounce on it.”
“Mike has been unbelievable this season, at just 17 years old to play as many games as he has is testament to his ability, the boy is still growing and filling out and is only going to get better.”
“And I’ve always said, competition for your place brings the best out of you and improves you as a player.”
“Both keepers will bounce off each other and push each other at this crucial time in the season where we need to be right at it.”
Welcome to ’74, Jack!
