After an enforced break due to the weather, 1874 Northwich return to action this afternoon as they host Tividale at The Creative Hut Stadium.
Last home match, Chris Herbert’s side were on the right end of a 2-0 scoreline, and the ’74 boss is hoping to continue to build some momentum, as The Green’s look to head into a busy festive period amongst the frontrunners in the league.
“Our last home game was a deserved 2-0 win against OJM Black Country. As I’ve said we need to make our home ground a fortress, we have two home games in a row within 4 days now with Uttoxeter in the cup on Tuesday night travelling to us.”
“We have a good run of games and we need to pick up momentum for the Christmas period where we have a few huge games including the Northwich derby on Boxing Day.”
“As I’ve said to the lads in the changing rooms, we need to just concentrate on catching the top side and just keep grinding out 3 points until we have caught up on our games in hand, then we can see where we are at and push on again.”
Across the season so far, Herbert’s side have often come unstuck against sides towards the lower end of the table. With draws against Wolverhampton Casuals and Highgate United only two weeks ago, the ’74 boss spoke about the positive work the squad have put in at training, as they look to add more goals to their game.
“After the 1-1 draw away to Highgate it was clear to see the goals are not flowing as they should be.”
“We are looking to make an addition up front and change things up slightly, it’s nothing drastic, but I feel we have been a little one dimensional and predictable at times.”
“Whoever is up front has to score goals with the chances that we get and it’s up to us as a coaching team to make sure these lads are in the right positions at the right times, we have worked hard on this since our last game and hopefully Saturday we will start to see the rewards of the lads hard work.”
“We need to score more goals, we know that and it’s up to us to take the game to Tividale. They are much improved compared to our 3-1 win at their place. It was a niggly game with both teams not wanting to take a backward step and I can’t see it being much different this afternoon.”
“As usual I want to ask our fans to get behind the lads for 90 minutes and really give the lads that extra energy and push in the game.”
“We are on the cusp of something very good with this group of lads and we want to reward our fans support with attacking football and 3 points.”
“The noise they create will be huge for us in the coming weeks.”
