Two More Key Appointments

Following the appointment of his Assistant Manager, Ian Street has quickly added to his management team by appointing Matt Conkie to the role of goalkeeper player/ coach at the club.

Matt 31, is very experienced and well known and respected around the local non-league football circuit having spent time at The Vics, Alsager Town,  Kidsgrove Athletic, Winsford United and most recently Congleton Town with whom he brokered the deal for us to play against in a pre-season friendly.  Matt started his career as a young professional with Chester City FC.

He is Northwich born and bred and spent many a Saturday afternoon with his dad as a supporter at the old Drill Field ground watching the Vics.

Manager Ian said of the appointment, ‘Matt is a real character in the game and I rate him as one of the best keepers around, he is passionate about the game and a born winner who other players love to be around, he will assist myself and Lee in moving the club forward, his input and opinions will be valuable and his ability as a keeper will pass on and improve any younger talented goalkeepers that we may have in the future, I am hoping to have some good competition for the number one position and Matt is a great start to that idea’.

In addition 1874 are pleased to announce the appointment of Lee Wilkinson as Club Physiotherapist. Lee is a young local lad who has been plying his trade with Crewe Ladies FC but now wants to be involved with our new club and the fresh challenges that it will bring.

In an e-mail to Ian he said “Thank you very much for this opportunity, I am very excited and keen to get started and look forward to training in June”.

Welcome to the club Matt and Lee
